Spring Summer 2020
Simkhai is consistently inspired by women and their mystifying juxtaposition of femininity and power, and his Spring / Summer 2020 collection was no different. Using the Georgia O'Keeffe painting Grey Lines with Black, Blue, and Yellow as a starting point, he strived to emulate her philosophy of drawing attention to something beautiful that is easily and often overlooked. Shown on a rooftop against the backdrop of New York, as if to further underscore the duality of strength and softness that is core to the brand, the cleansing palette of pear, peach, lavender and ivory wafted down the runway. The collection also saw the debut of Jonathan Simkhai handbags. The styles, including an oversized envelope clutch, shrunken crossbody, structured belt bag and an exaggerated leather hobo, were each named "woman" in a different language. A detail O'Keeffe would no doubt have enjoyed.
